Kent State Geological Society

About Us

Kent State Geological Society is the oldest student organization at  Kent State University with its inception in 1949.  Today, we keep  the tradition alive with annual events and activities.

We have a Fall Picnic where we share a great time with fellow  undergraduate students, graduate students, professors and our    families.  In the spring, we sponsor the Spring Banquet where we award scholarships to members for Summer Field Camp to Black Hills, South Dakota. We do volunteer work with the local Cuyahoga Valley National Park as well. We also sponsor field trips such as camping, white water rafting and museum tours to spark further interest in the field of geology through first-hand experience.

All this is possible through our fundraising at our KSGS coffee table.  The coffee table is open on weekdays (hours TBA) at the hallway intersection on the 3rd floor of McGilvrey Hall.  We sell snacks, coffee and other beverages, rocks/minerals, and sometimes t-shirts and hoodies (when in stock).

Our mission is to promote scientific interest in the field of geology and to foster camaraderie among the geology majors and minors at Kent State University.
